The headteacher of Fir Vale School has resigned with immediate effect following the riot that took place there last month.
Parents of pupils have been informed that Simon Hawkins has agreed to leave his position at the school.
The letter shown to parents states: “We are grateful for his work with Fir Vale during which time a great deal has been
achieved that will secure the school going forward. We wish him well in his next role.”
This news comes just one month after the “huge brawl”, in which two students were injured. It was even confirmed after the event that a member of staff was also assaulted.
15 police vehicles, dog teams and a helicopter were sent to break up the riot. Shocking videos appeared on social media websites showing students fighting inside and outside of the school.
Rachel Smith is set to take over as headteacher from November 5.
